MORE THAN 830 VILLAGES WILL BENEFIT FROM SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SUPPLY PROJECTS

More than 830 villages expect to benefit from sustainable energy services projects as part of government strategy to assist villagers to overcome energy crisis in the country. The photos show technicians from one of the project contractors constructing power line in Kilosa district early this year.

The lack of energy has slowed down the development of the rural areas in the country, these projects aim to improve the situation and encourage development in rural areas that so far energy users are less than 10 percent.

The Rural Energy Agency (REA), an institution established by the government in order to help supply of electricity and gas has put in place a plan to finance the investment companies through investment bank’s creditworthiness to invest in rural areas electricity.

The Rural Energy Agency (REA) will provide 20-30 percent depending on the project spearheaded by the company and the rest will be coved by Bank loans to facilitate the projects. These methods used by the government will assist in generating a stage of development in the rural areas which for many years have been in need of these importation services in fostering economic development.
